SITUATION

Due to a serious rear-end collision on 28/08/2023, a dangerous goods transporter loaded with high-pressure tanks exploded. The collision quickly led to a fire which spread to several vehicles. This caused severe damage to the concrete carriageway.

CHALLENGE

The A2 is considered an important east-west link between Hanover and Berlin, meaning that the fastest possible repair was necessary to avoid long periods of closure

DAMAGE

The blaze causes sever damage to around 400 square metres of motorway

SOLUTION

  • Cutting the concrete surface
  • Removal and disposal of the damaged concrete slab
  • Production of the formwork
  • Installation of dowel sand anchors
  • Laying 500 t of type B quick-set concrete
  • Creating the joints
  • Surface texturing through Grinding

Two excavators working in parallel to remove the damaged concrete slab gently

Cutting of the concrete surface into manageable pieces using two powerful cutting machines

Load of a concrete section

Use of mobile concrete mixers with a mixing capacity of 0.75 m³/min (3 mixers were operated in rotation to ensure an uninterrupted concrete supply)

Due to the rapid drying of the quick-set concrete, the surface must be smoothed and textured with a broom coat immediately after pouring the concrete
