SUSTAINABLE ROAD CONSERVATION THROUGH REFURBISHMENT OF SURFACE TEXTURES
One of the most important characteristics of traffic areas from the user’s point of view are the surface properties. These influence, among other things, grip, noise emissions, driving comfort, rolling resistance and thus fuel consumption and tyre wear. Over the course of the useful life of a traffic area, the surface properties change as a result of a wide variety of influences, such as the weather and traffic load. In order to continue to comply with the limit values of the individual properties, conservation measures are required. For the sake of sustainability, it would be advantageous in such measures if only the surface can be machined, instead of having to replace the road body to a greater extent. There are a number of technologies for this purpose, such as how resource conservation can be achieved while at the same time providing an optimal traffic area for the road user. In this context, the availability of the road must also be kept in mind by the use of rapidly implementable conservation methods in times of low traffic, in order to take account of often forgotten factors such as, for example, macroeconomic costs due to congestion.
