Cologne Bonn Airport serves almost 12 million passengers come through every year. This puts it in sixth place in Germany. In the air freight sector, the airport is third in Germany.
The airport has two parallel runways and a cross-wind runway. Due to the 24-hour operation of the airport, any disruptions caused by maintenance work must be kept to an absolute minimum.
The company Otto Alte-Teigeler GmbH submitted the refurbishment proposal with a DSK-AIR coating 0/3 adapted to the conditions with a setting time of about 30 minutes.
After successful laboratory tests and further tests on test areas, DSK-AIR was used for the refurbishment of an area of 218,000 m² and thus ensured operation until the general renovation in 2018.
The work was carried out using state-of-the-art machines in the time windows in day and night shifts. Flight operations were maintained throughout the construction period. Within 6 weeks in July and August 2016, the entire task was performed mainly on weekends.
Otto Alte-Teigeler GmbH performed all services to be provided, from demarcating, milling, cleaning, applying the DSK-AIR layer to the new marking, partially via subcontractors. In this way, the client received all the necessary work steps from a single source and did not have to themselves coordinate the work of several contractors.
All partners involved in the project were completely satisfied with the construction process and the final result.

Aftertreatment of the DSK-AIR coating with rubber wheel roller
High daily throughput thanks to modern DSK-AIR application machinery
Finished runway after successful refurbishment with DSK-AIR
Texture of the DSK-AIR surface with very good grip values right from completion
